Default suspension

I have a 98 C5. When I go over speed bumps, i hear these squeaky noises both in the front and rear suspension. Could my shocks be warn out? If so, what shocks do you recommend that I get and should I also get a polyurethane bushing kit to seal the deal?

I hate to be redundant on replying to the suspension questions but I see that you posted at 4 PMish and no one has replied so I will chime in and then others will offer up advice too.

The sound may be shocks or may be the sway bar bushings. But since you have a 98 as I do, the shocks may need replaced anyways. But first try the easy approach and get some graphite grease and hit the sway bar bushings and see if that helps.

As far as shock replacement, I went with C6 Z06 shocks. They were 200.00 shipped and I installed them myslef. Others will say Blisteins, or 04 z06 shocks and they are correct also. But for me price was the factor and being from GM I felt comfortable with my decision. After driving the car with them on, I am VERY pleased with them. I do intend to try some auto crossing so if I find that cars with Blisteins are blowing me away then I will consider changing eventually. But for now they are excellent.

If you have the selective ride control and want to change shocks shoot me a PM and I'll walk you through how to work around that issue. I have no issues at this time with the C6 ones, but either of the three choices and you can't go wrong. Its just up to you really.

Good luck on your decision. Happy Holidays

Thanks for the reply...

I do have selective ride control but at this point if feel that no matter what i select, it all seems the same to me. I notice no difference between the three options. Honestly, i could care less about the ride control option, i just want the ride to be better and make the noise go away. Do you recommend that i also purchase the polyurethane bushing kit when i get the set of shocks? Is it a hassle to change the shocks, because i would like to do them myself if its no big deal. I have changed shocks on other cars before but never on a vette. Let me know what you think...

(Eliminate it like I did, totaly useless IMO and not worth the 1000.00 to replace the shocks to make it work again) Honestly, i could care less about the ride control option, i just want the ride to be better and make the noise go away.
I can help you do that when you are ready, eliminate the ride control. Solder in resistors to the wires.

Yes. Use these they are great. http://www.vbandp.com/detail.aspx?ID=903

You should be fine especially if you have experience. I have video of the installation I just have to finish editing it for my Vpodcast in a week or two. I'll let you klnow when it is ready if you like. More then likely you will need a 1/2 inch drive set for the rear lower bolt. I couldn't get enough torque on the 3/8 drive.

Let me know what you think...
Add the Z06 sways with vette brakes poly bushings and you will be amazed.
good luck and stay in touch if I can help you out. also maybe fill out your profile so we know where you are and maybe a local forum member can lend you a hand too.
