Default Remote System Down

On my 02 Z I have always had a problem with the factory keypad not allowing me access to the trunk, but recently it started working the lock/unlock buttons intermittently and now do not work at all. I've replaced the batteries and tried reprogramming the keypad every way possible and still nothing. I have service manuals so I have done the correct steps to reprogram. Nothing. I have a couple of salvage cars of the same year. I should be able to replace the receiver with one off of another car and program the remotes, correct?

No I haven't tried another remote yet. I will have to try to find one. I guess that's where I should start.

YEP!!! The remotes do go bad! You will need to find one with the same type of operating system. The early C5 are incompatible with the newer ones. 2001 - 2004 are different than 1997-2000. I think 2000'
C5 were different still.
You will need a newer version FOB! They are less expensive than the older ones and I have had good luck on e-bay. You can also look on the C5 parts for sale forum.

There are TWO different procedures to get the FOBs to work

Theres a RE-LEARN and a RE-SYNC procedure. Which one are you doing???? You should ReLearn first and re sync if your fob stops working after the relearn. You can also program up to three fobs for your car!!! It all covered in the owners manual.

Default RKE Sync Proceedure

Here is the proceedure for resynchronization if needed, good luck!

Transmitter Programming/Synchronization

Each transmitter has a unique Vehicle Access Code (V AC) that changes every 5 seconds. If a transmitter or receiver is replace, each transmitter must be programmed to the vehicle's receiver. Entering a specific button sequence on the DIC, up to three transmitters can be programmed into the receiver. After programming the transmitters to the vehicle, the receiver will update this code every 5 seconds in order to match the code programmed in the transmitter.
The transmitter may not communicate or become out of synchronization with the receiver if any of the following situations occurs:
• The transmitter battery is disconnected.
• The vehicle battery is disconnected.
• The transmitter and the vehicle are separated for 2 weeks or more.
• The receiver is disconnected.

Perform the synchronizing procedure if the transmitter does not communicate or becomes out of synchronization with the receiver. If the transmitter and/or receiver are replaced, preform the following programming procedure:

1. Turn the ignition to ON.
2. Turn the radio to OFF.
3. Press the RESET button in order to clear any IPC warning messages.
4. Press and release the OPTIONS button on the DIC to scroll through the display options until the
IPC display is blank.
5. Press and hold the RESET button for 3 seconds.
6. Press the OPTIONS button until FOB TRAINING message is displayed.
7. Press the RESET button in order to begin the programming sequence. The message HOLD LK + UNLK 1 ST FOB will be displayed.
8. Simultaneously press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the first transmitter for
15 seconds. The IPC will indicate when that transmitter is programmed and when to proceed to the next. Repeat this procedure for each additional transmitter or press the OPTIONS button to exit.

The receiver will cancel the programming sequence if any of the following conditions occur:
• The program mode is exited through the DIe.
• The ignition is turned to OFF.
• The three transmitters have been programmed.
• The RFA system has been in the program mode for longer that 2 minutes and not transmitters have been learned.
