running lean
Kept getting check engine light so took my '04 A4 to the dealer. They found a vacuum leak in the manifold but also found whenever the hood was closed, the engine ran lean. They feel it is the Halltech stinger filter. Even with new manifold gaskets, it still gave them the same problem. Hood open, no problem, hood closed, runs lean.
Anyone have a similar experience or solution?

I would get lean codes when running the Halltech Stinger at the track only , never under normal circumstances. I would check all of the connections and make sure the stinger is sitting as low as possible. It may be the hood pressing down on the airbridge and causing unintended air leakge.
otherwise, take it in for a dyno tune and they can adjust the fuel as necessary.
The PCM should be able to handle the increased air flow from the stinger. It is supposed to be able to adjust (re-learn) for up to a 25% increase in airflow...
But if you used it in combination with a high flow air bridge a descreened (or after market high flow) MAF and a ported polished throttle body, you would like be outside the tolerances...
Any other goodies that increase the airflow?
is the air bridge loose and sitting too high or the boot going to the throttle housing have a crack? almost sounds like when the hood is closing it is pushing on the air bridge and creating a air leak after the maf.just a thought.
