Sometimes my gas guage doesnt read correctly. This has been going on for a few weeks or so. I know this because i would fill up, and the next day when i know i have a full take, my guage reads a little over a half. Then if i turn the car off and start it back up, it will read full. It does it randomly. Any idea on what could be wrong? Thanks

Pour a bottle of either Chevron Techron Concentrate or Gumout Regane in your tank and fill up. Run this until almost empty. Hopefully the problem will be fixed. Some have to do two treatments. The problem is basically from your level sending unit being contaminated with sulpher compounds from the fuel. Most people use the Chevron...most people don't know the Gumout Regane is basically the same chemistry (P.E.A.) as the Techron but even more concentrated. It can be confusing on which Gumout to buy. Look for the clear plastic bottle with a gold colored fluid. Above the large word "GUMOUT" in finer print should be "Regane fuel system cleaner".
Another suggestion:
If you have a habit of filling the tanks beyond the automatic shut off point, the word is that raises difficulties with modern fuel systems on most cars.
They are calibrated to work best when filled to the auto shut off. Among other issues, the fuel sensors are designed to signal "full" at that point.
It's a common (old) practice that once I broke myself from having, the fuel gauge settled right down, assisted by the occasional bottle of Techron.

i use chevron about 75% of the time (at least) and 76/Unocal the rest. my guage does something slightly different every once in a while...it just goes to empty regardless of what i have in the tank

Mine (02 coupe with 23,000 miles) just started to that too. Reads full down to 3/4, then drops to zero. Goes to the dealer for warrenty work on Tuesday. Gotta love the extended warrenty.
'Seafoam' gas treatment is also very effective to remove the sulfur deposites. Its available at any parts store. My 2c Good luck C5 doesnt like low quality fuel
