I also went with the SPTs. So far they are fine. I believe they have longer wear characteristics than the MX . They are summer not all year tires. The only negative is when the temps drop and my car has been sitting overnite, they seem to flat spot for the first couple of minutes. That is what the Summer Compound is about.
I have had Kumhos before and I was pleased with them.

This is my first set of KUHMO SPT's and I am very happy with them. Very quiet and have pretty good traction. Definitely worth the money.
After reading the above comments it seems the MX is the most popular choice for overall performance but with poor tread wear compared to other Kumho's. Not to much comparison with the others for tire noise except lots of mention about the improvement ovey GY runflats (no surprise there). Hydroplanning information is there (above), thanks. Noise between Kumho Runflats and MX's hasn't been expressed; I assume other vette owners haven't had the experience with these two tire models to offer an opinion. Its a shame the ASX's don't perform better because it appears to be a quiet tire. Thanks for all the information offered, I appreciate it.
Anyone have any comparisons between Kumho RUNFLATS and other Kumho's mentioned above for hydroplanning, wet traction and noise?
Maybe some comparisons between Kumho RUNFLATS and NON- GY Runflats? Your comments are appreciated.
I read a previous post several days ago that had a
comparison test run by Car & Driver for 11 different
tires. The Kuhmo ECSTA MX came in 11th (last).
Performance for this tire in wet road conditions was
significantly below average.

Yep, I have read that one but I was hoping for some noise comparisons in particular. If I go to the runflats I know they are all noisy, trying to see if Kumho are perceived as really bad compared to other runflats. From all the comments above I think I've now rejected all the other Kumos, I'd rather replace my D3's with the same if I go non-runflat. Hoping there is something good about Kuhmo runflats besides the price compared to other runflats - already know I don't want GY runflats again. Thanks for your input.

I have MXs and they tire wear is good with normal driving and they are great overall street performance tire.

That test was useless. If the Kumho MXs are so bad, why are they one of the most popular tires for street tire classes at the SCCA Solo 2 National Championships? Grassroots Motorsports (a far better automotive publication) would tell you that MXs are great tires.

It's funny that the only people saying the Kumhos are junk also happen to sell more expensive tires
I have the ASX series. I've put about 20K on them freeway driving and there's still half the tread left. Performance wise - they're OK. They are better than the original runflats and are quiet. Unbelievably quiet compared to worn out runflats... but those runflats are just amazing that they can make so much noise!
I have the runflat versions. I almost didnt get them, but I chickened out....can't imagine a flat with so little clearance below. The sound improvement over the GYears was pretty drastic. They handle very well, but concrete Dallas roads are terrible no matter what you have.
I am truly concerned over tire wear but will have to wait and see - so far so good. And the price is real good for a runflat.

Fram sells far more oil and air filters than Mobil or K&N. However, this certainly does NOT indicate that Fram makes the best filters, does it? A avid racer once told me that he would LOVE to buy the best tires for his "hobby", but his budget allows him to buy only inexpensive pads and tires.
If inexpensive and good-handling tires are your main criteria, Kumhos are fine, but don't think that they are anywhere near as good as the best. You get what you pay for. Ditto for oil and air filters.

Good point. But, you can't win if you run out of money
But sure, Yokohamas are better, Falkens are better. However, I refuse to believe Car and Driver when they claim that Goodyear and Continental are the best and Kumho is the worst. It's too bad Hankook doesn't make the R-S2 Z212 in Corvette sizes. Those were awesome, very affordable tires when I ran them on my STi.
Well, C&D specifically stated why the Kumhos came in last place. They consistently produced slower autocross times compared to all the others. I can understand why people who are used to runflats think Kumhos are a big improvement. Unfortunately, many of those people have never driven with Goodyear GSD3 shoes. Once you use the D3s, you are spoiled for life!
