My 02 Convertible door locks is causing me some problems and I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem? What it is doing is that both car doors will lock with the Key FOB, and when I go to "unlock" the car it will only unlock the drivers door! I have to go inside the car and manually unlock the passenger door. Is there something that I can do myself, or do I have to bite the bullet and take it to a auto mechanic?? Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I have an 02 also. A few weeks ago. my locks were acting a little goofy too- automatic locking of the drivers door, without using the fob. I coincidentally had to swap out the battery about a week later. It died without warning at 60K miles. The door lock problem disappeared. Coinsidence? Related? I donno. But try disconnecting the negative on your battery for a few minutes, and see if that helps. If all else fails, the owners manual might say something interesting, Good luck.
If as suggested resetting things doesn't work, sounds like the controller in the passenger side door. I've replaced several for the same reason. Check to see if it is even "clicking" inside the door. The rod may be sticking and a little WD40 might help.
Assuming when you click the fob the door is not clicking at all on the passenger side, then I'd say you need to swap out the controller. They are not that hard to change and you can do it yourself with a few basic tools. Unfortunately cost is about $200 but I don't have the part number handy.
I was recently having similar problems with my driver's door on my '03 Z06. I have an extended GMPP warranty. Dealer replaced both the door actuator and the door control module since it was hard to determine which part might be at fault. No problems now. Actually, dealer gave me the parts and I did the repair myself, because I wanted to. It's not that difficult, however if you don't have a warranty it's going to cost you. I'd try a Vette salvage yard, maybe you could save some money if you find a car with not too many miles. There is a place online from Michigan that specializes in Vette parts, search Tracy Vettes.
Previously, I had the same symptoms here. My door lock module was replaced under warranty, a couple of years ago. The dealer tech mentioned that a failed driver's side module can affect the passenger side lock operation as well.
