Default Tranny/Diff Oil...

I tried to do a search on this but I got my vette yesterday and put Royal purple oil in it today, I want to change the (mn6) tranny and diff fluids to royal purple too, question is what royal purple stuff do I use?? and how much?? Syncromax? Royal purple atf? I know the diff needs a limited slip additive but dosent the royal purple already have it?? Thanks

Depending on the year, you need to be careful on which trans fluid you use. 97, 98, 99 and maybe 2000 (someone correct me here on the end year) use paper blockers in the trans, and synthetic oils will break the blockers down and mess up the tranny, unless it has been rebuilt.

Good info here ------> http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...erential+fluid

So I would use royal purple sycromax in the tranny INSTEAD of royal purple ATF IF I do have the paper blockers??? And for the diff I guess I put the recommended weight of gear oil in there (royal purple max gear oil), just want to make sure that stuff has the limited slip additive and is ok to use. I have a 2000 coupe so i dont know if i have the paper ones or not

Diff
C & P : Many opinions here as well about the best fluid and correct amount as it regards the well documented left side seepage. I went with Royal Purple 75/90 because it has LSD additive and it's about $10 per quart versus $28 per quart for the GM plus $4 for the additive. The Royal Purple users also gave the best reviews. Now for the amount.....

1.69 quarts plus 4 oz additive equals 58.08 ounces. I used a nylon hose on a graduated 8 oz squeeze bottle and put in exactly 58 ounces cold. This put the level about 1/4 inch below the fill port, corresponding to the belief that it should reach the fill level only when hot.

Tranny

Manual trans fluid: Leveled car, then drained 3 1/2 quarts. Raised front for an aft rake and drained another 1/4 quart. Aprox 1/4 qt of 4.1 total is inaccessable in trans cooler.

Lot's of discussion about the best fluid here....I was concerned about the paper ring blocker filters and thier reaction to synthetics so I went with GM's latest ATF: Dexron VI. This is recommended to replace all Dexron III applications.

You wont go wrong with the GM stuff.
Good Luck

Update: I have some contacts and spoke directly to Jared who is lead prudcuct development at Royal Purple, he states "that the synchromax is fully compatible with all c5 standard transmissions. He further states that RP is not alcohol based, and that the synthetics that are can casue those breakdowns (paper blockers)to occur"

I asked him if he was sure and not just trying to increase sales his reply was that in 8 years he has been there he has not seen or heard one c5 related tranny issue with syncramax. He is not willing to risk a 3000.00 transmission over a 50.00 sale and the litigation. He stands behind his product.

Good luck with your decision.
