Driving normal I noted temp raising t 230 which it never did before. Pulling over I checked all and found coolant low but no leaks, so I added water to finish my way home. Restarted car and it ran fine no lights and temp went down to normal. Stopped off for gas and noted temp raising again. 5 miles later got home and noted the coolant low again. Checked oil and I have intermix. Running fine except for the temp getting up to 230. So now with 42k on the engine, I drive her daily, I'm towed in to the dealer to find problem. No codes. No sign of overheat except intermix. I give permission to tear down. Teardown showed no wash on pistons and no sign of blown headgasket. Closer inspection showed a crack on the top of the block between 2 and 4 but not in the cylinder wall only on the top of block. I have requested assist from Chevy and they are to send out rep to look at. How rare is this crack??
Anyone heard of this problem??

This is the first time I've heard of a crack between the cylinders, most of the time the cylinder wall itself cracks.
Very very rare w/o nitrous use or forced induction. If GM doesn't help you out I'd say it's time to call one of the great tuners on the forum and get something like a 402 in the car.
If you're considering using the Darton MID kit to
resleeve your block and want to see what it would
look like, email me at lcwolf03@comcast.net and
I'll reply with a picture of one. I also have a 6 page
list of FAQ's regarding wet sleeves if you're
interested.
