I went to start the Vette today and the battery was dead. So I borke out the charger and connected it. After a couple of minutes I hear a loud humming noise from the speakers. I switched from 12 amp to 6 amp on the charger and the noise goes down with the amps. I have noticed in the past when I turn the car off I can hear a faint hum from the speakers. There is no noise when the car is running, though. What could this be? Where do I start? Thanks!
I would pull the negative cable and put an amp meter between it and the post to see how much current is being drawn with the car off and the key out of the ignition. Make sure the underhood light is disconnected. You can then pull the fuses one at a time to see if something is drawing current. Start with the accessory fuse for the radio.
If your going to do a current draw test, you meed an AMP Meter:
The meter need to be connected in SERIES with the negative battery cable. Here is a picture of one of the test I did to confirm the correct current draw in my 02 ZO6:
You looking for 20 milliamps. You will see it start out at 7-8 amps, drop to 1-2 amps for a short while and when the BCM goes to sleep, it should drop to 20 MA.
Sounds like your BOSE amplifer relay is defective. What year C5 is it?
Bill,
It's a '97. After reading your post I checked the relay and sure enough it's bad. I tapped on it and the noise stopped. So now I need a part number for a new one. Bill, thanks alot! You are the man!
