I am a COMPLETE novice with the new vette I bought last week, and am just wanting to do a few mods for right now, like go to a LS6 intake, Stinger CAI, and a head swap.
I am not a mechanic, nor will I ever come close, but I would like to know, based on the fact I have little motor experience with any company, how difficult is this swap (head and intake, for that matter cam)? I know this is subjective, but if you were approached by someone with little experience, would you recommend any of this swap for someone like myself? Is this something I should let 21CMC or LG handle?
I find the LSx engine to be one of the simplest I have worked on, but I have played with cars since I was very young. There is also a certain amount of satisfaction doing your own work. You could start with the Stinger first and see how it goes and move on from there. The vendors will certainly do a good job too. There are also some special tools you will need like torque wrenches if you don't have them. Go to LS1Howto.com and read over the head/cam change on a C5, that will give you a good idea what you are in for and help you decide whether you want to take it on. And then, there is always a lot of help here too. You might even be able to hook up with some people in your area to give you a hand in some of the more difficult parts.
