Default Common Courtesy When Asking for Help

A lot of people ask for help in here and get expert advice, which is fantastic. That is what this Forum is all about and which makes this the top Forum, IMO! One thing that irks me is that alot of the time the individual asking for the help never posts up a final “That fixed it!”. I’m not saying you should post a thank you but it would be nice to know what finally fixed the problem for validation or future reference if it turns it the fix was something different!

This will probably turn into a rant more than anything else, but if you ask for help, please post up the final fix.

Sure makes sense, especially for the next guy looking to fix the same problem.

Default Thanks for advice

If someone takes the time to give good advice that helps, on using that advice one ought to at least thank them. I do when I use the forum. Also agree when it's fixed, close out the thread and say so. Good points.

What erks me is when the original poster NEVER returns to the thread. People try to help.... but to dead ears.

I totally agree with thanking someone for their time and assistance. But, it's the American way, we want it fast and we want it now...we don't thank the WHATABURGER drive through attendant, either.

I agree. Everyone reading this should now go look at their own old posts and see if they can add some closure to the ones they can. I try to do that from time, but sometimes I forget.

Of course, if they are not locked.

I get a lot of people that send IM for help with a problem or feedback on a product that I have installed. After writing a lengthy response I will wait, and wait, and wait some more - never getting a response. Finally I will send a "did you get my response" message, they always say yes. Why is it so hard to send a simple thanks for the help message? Ok, I am done complaining now...

Makes a lot of sense. I like to keep a record of various tech tips and finding out if a recommendation worked would be a good idea.

$hit I would rather people actually searched a little for some info rather than asking for the millionth time how to fix a rocking seat, what is column lock, what is the best cam for my stock motor, should I get gears and the list goes on and on.... I like to learn new things and read and help people but seriously after reading these boards for years and years the repetitive questions get a little old.

I also have noticed that many simple questions are covered in the owners manual. As an example when do I change oil, and what type oil? I am afraid that the computer age has caused the younger generations to search for info in a different way than us older guys.

I go to the manual first then to some other source of info.

I beleive that the computer age has made people different. No personal knowledge of each other, just a screen name. The atttitude is I do not need to thank a name since I do not really know a person.
