I have a 1998 Automatic C5 Coupe. Bone stock except for the K&N air filter lol.
Anyway reciently I took it to the strip and pulled a 13.07 @ 107 Best. (1.9 60')
This was done on some 315 V710's on the stock 18" C5 rims. (so pretty much the same contact patch as a 275 but these work great on the autocross track)
Anyway I noticed I picked up .2 just from letting the car cool down before a run as well as launching it a bit harder.
I am looking at getting a few basic mods to help close the gap between me and the C5 Z06's that were only running 12.5's
cat backs dont have much gain in hp over stock. mostly for sound. vettes dont have chips either, well they do, but not the upgrade kind that you swap out. You are better off getting headers and the vararam intake and then getting a dyno tune to squeeze some extra hp out of your mods. also, buy a used z06 catback. they are made from titanium and lighter than any aftermarket catback system out there. you can pick up a used set for $400 or less here at the parts section. there is also a vararam for sale too! and there are some deals going around on header systems
Im not expecting miracles in HP from little bolt ons at all. The catback will be a nice upgrade since the stock setup sounds more like a vacume cleaner than a Corvette. The Bullet system looked like it was the least restrictive while also making it much better sounding/looking (stock tips on this C5 are like carbon black eww) West Coast Corvette has some nice looking parts in it and the bullet setup looked fairly priced imo.
I come from a Mustang GT so I know mods are a bit different from a 4.6L mod motor to these 350 Pushrod's.
When I mean getting a chip I mean something like a tune or a programer which I could do a little tuneing at the track or something.
If all goes well after the exhaust and intake we would get some heads and maby headers.
We want to keep it slightly simple for now untill this summer when I want to kick *** vs the z06's that run in the same class as me in autox. (V710's on this car and im only 1 sec behind the slightly modded z06's at a really fast track. part driver but a bit more HP would help me get ahead of them) Amazing suspension this car has stock. Breaks might need something since they were smokeing after a 5 lap run lol. )
Any and all suggestions are welcome. Links would also help too. Still learning the whole vette market here lol.
That Hurricane Intake has gotten some fairly decent reviews..but I would go with a Vararam instead. I can guaranntee that even with a hand-held tuner (Predator/Hypertech) you won't get 35 HP out of just an Intake like the ad says...I'm not saying you are expecting that..it just cracks me up how when mods are advertised they like to say you gain all this HP...what they fail to tell you is that you need a regular full dyno tune to get any real HP out of these mods.
The mustangs repsond a lot better to mods than our LS1 vettes do.
The Bullet exhaust you posted the link to is a very popular, pretty loud exhaust..you'll probably like the way it sounds..but again to shave any good time off your runs, you will need Long Tube headers/tune etc..

What an uninformed statement. The only thing I would say responds better is maybe a cat back system. GM did do right and put a decent exhaust on these cars from the factory. Other than that though the ls1's respond great to mods, that is if you do the right mods.

Completely true.
We just have a lot more variables when we consider our mods.
We can put a blower on our GT's and make 350-400RWHP with tons of torque. LS1's put a new cam in and they can make it almost a whole new engine.
They just respond differently to different mods.
A 4v cobra (na and 03/04 blown) respond better to intake and exhaust mods than a 2V GT.
Yeah, I had an '01 Cobra before my Z, and did the adjustable chip/intake/exhaust (just catback) mods, shifter, and a couple of other things. After all that it only pulled 289 RWHP. I figured it just wasn't worth SC'ing, and the rest is history....
Those are some good mods and while you are at it add the headers and you will like it better and for good measure put a blower on it and it will be sick
