Has anyone put a big block into a C-5 or know of conversions to do so?
(I've always figured more is better and too much is almost enough)
Scott Schafiroff makes some very interesting stroker combinations .. would be interesting to do a 632 cube supercharged motor - drivetrain setup -very evil grin- .. traction may be a problem.
You would have to go with the ZL1 version otherwise it would be way to heavy. A fully assembled BB with cast iron heads is going to be around 800 lbs. With aluminum heads you can knock it down to about 730. Then of course there is the amount of room it takes up.

'too much fabrication' -grin-
Thinkin 'panel car' ..looks like a C5 from the outside, all tube frame and aluminum panels on the inside.
I have no idea if the standard A4 and torque tube could be retained with a Rat .. weight distribution would take a hit for sure .. and there would have to be tub work to fit a big enough tire in the back.
Would take some serious thought on what car will be used for .. a fast ET bracket car is what I am aiming at myself .. I enjoy it.
If I were aiming at a road-race or SCCA car, much different approach for sure.
I know 1k+ hp out of the LSX motors is bein done .. I just wonder what the Rat would be like at the same level of build .. I imagine no traction in any forward gear would be standard
Unless you're talking a max effort drag car, replacing a LS motor with a BBC is going backwards. Sounds like you plan on just using the C5 bod, and building a race car around it. In such a case, it'd be pretty cool.
^ Yep... and it's been done... well the tube frame chassis has been done in hardcore drag applications. You're let w/ something that looks like a C5, but really isn't at all!

Why? Between the weight gain and the reality that with proper camming and headers the LS 427 produces as much power as the BB unless you go out to 500+ cu in, there is little reason to do so. With so much additional weight on the front end the C5 would be a handling pig.
I am curious ..wanted to know if anyone had done it or if there was even a conversion kit out for it.
Same question was asked about puttin a 454 in a Vega, 440 in a Duster,
.. etc.
Big motors in little cars are a bit of fun
Might not be as zippy around the twisties (then again, proper tires - suspension mods - it might do fairly well at that too)..
..but them big rectangle port heads/huge valves really excel at makin hp.
It's *easy* to get 600hp out of a Rat
I wonder what a C-5 with a nicely put together 572 would be like -evil grin- .. not a funny car like the pix posted above .. street machine, weekend racer, fun
-Frank (I may have to do it just to see for myself
It's also "easy" to get 600 hp from a LS based motor. Not cheap, mind you, but very easy. And the kicker, no costs for "conversion" and you'll still get 25+mpg on pump gas. Unless you LIKE 7 mpg?

If you ever drove a 70 C3 with a 454, there great in a straight line until you try to turn the wheel. Theres a whole write up on why they went away from the heavy big block in a Corvette. The main reason was the affect on handling Drag car ,go for it twisties

I thought u were gonna tell us u woke up this morning & found a field rat in your car, Now that would be a funny
SHOEHORN and KY JELLY Seriously tube chassised C5 racecar clones are available in any stage from a do it yourself pile of tubes to a complete roller, just drop in your powertrain. SUNCOAST RACECARS out of Florida, and DON DAVIS RACECARS in Arizona are two that come to mind.
