Default cam w/stock heads

I've noticed alot of talk lately about cam and heads upgrade but it's been just that,..cam AND heads, I am wondering if there is a nice cam upgrade for a car with stock ls1 heads. I have magnaflow exhaust with x-pipe and bbk air intake other than that it's STOCK. Thanks for any suggestions in advance. Also it is my only car so it is a daily driver but I certainly don't mind a little lope. thanks

There are alot of differnt cam choices you can go with having stock heads. Its too hard to say what cam is for you since there are so many.

Since you are in CA, you need to be very cautious on your cam selection. There are lots of cams to choose from, including custom cams that are taylored to the kind of performance you are looking for from the car. I would sugget a little "light" reading to aid in the decision making process.

I have an 02 coupe as well and i went with the g5x3 cam with my stock heads. But like stated above, your in Ca so you will have to be able to pass emmissions so this may rule the g5x3 out of your choices. Mine is also a daily driver. There is alot of info on this subject, you may want to do a search and see what most people are running in your area. Hope this helps

I have stock LS-1 heads and did a cam only. I went with a smaller size, not like the monster cams some of these guys put in. I put in a lunati 222/ .558 on a 116 lsa. It has a smooth idle and has a nice pick up to it. It really woke the car up. Best of all, I have to worry about emissions testing in Missouri and it passed easily.

Check Thunder Racing's CheaTR cam, it's mild and said to work well with stock heads and exhaust manifold. Just change springs and retainers.

Make rwhp like a Z06 and a little better!

I have a Z06, stock heads, headers,hi flow cats and ECS cam, 430rwhp. Extremely drivable, don't know about CA car inspection, but I don't throw any codes.

I don't think that a Cheatr alone will get you to quite there... With AFR heads, guys are approaching 400rwhp, and with LS6 style ported heads, mid 370's. With just a cam, I think you'd be looking at 30hp at best above your stock 310ish...

As long as your tone is good, passing the sniffer in cali shouldn't be a prob. I have a 228/232 (mid-size) with long tubes tuned by A&A, and never had any problems.

I've been wanting to put a cam in my car but but my main worry is wether or not I will pass smog. I want to put in a agressive cam, stock heads, stock headers and stock cats. but I dont know much limitations on how aggressive of a cam I can install. California smog is tough....

I have the MS4 but it's a beast on stock heads. Runs great and I don't regret it at all. I think it is a 111 LSA so it counts em' off!
