Ill try to make this short without leaving out anything. I have a 98 M6 vert with a 408 w/nos. I ran 10's consistently for about 4 months, broke an output shaft in diff and replaced both left and right side with DTE 300 shafts, along with the HP spring pack for diff. Raced 2 months and snapped output shaft in trans. Ordered new trans from RPM and stage 3 diff from DTE. They stated they could not use my axles I bought previously because they might be tweaked! (should have known something then!) Wanting them to honor their warranty if something should break I said okay, build me a new one. They also told me I needed their trans brace, I said ok. Put everything in drove 400 street miles(took me 2 months), put my M/T drag radials back on and stripped the ring & pinion and busted the case on the 1st launch! Took diff out, bought a $13 plastic tote, sent it back to DTE. They told me they would not warranty it, but they would build me a new one for $2000 plus core ($700). I politely said no thank you, and asked if they would please send my parts back so that I can salvage whats left. They said sure "all I need is a credit card #". They chaged me shipping and sent my parts back in a cardboard box (kept my plastic tote!). Hows that for customer satisfaction!!! BTW I have 2 sets of 300 axles for sale, as well as a trans brace for a 97 to 04 M6.
I'm suprised to read this after knowing and dealing with phil over the years. I'm sure if you talk to him directly he'll take care of the situation for you. I've been using his diffs for drag racing for years now with no problems. I can tell you phils a stand up guy as he sent me a brand new set of drag radials free out of the blue for loaning him my set for a few runs on a car last fall. Give Phil or Jenny a call.

They stated $2000 was a good price and that they saved me $ on labor. That may be true but I have spent about $4000 with these people and expected a little more help than they offered.

I certainly understand your frustration. Give em a chance to work with you on making this right.
I would but this car has sent me to the poor house! I bought a low mileage ZO6 unit from a fellow forum member, so I am back on the road again. No more M/T radials for me!!
Boy I figured DTE would chimed in by now. I can't believe they shot you down, I agree you need to talk to the right person to get situation squared away.
I am looking to purchase an upgraded differential...was actually going to make a few calls today, but things were too Watching this thread very cautiously.

there must be more to this story. Guess we'll have to wait to see what comes up.

I spoke with Jenny several times. My diff sat in the shop for days and no one called to offer any info. I had to call several times, only to here "You experienced a wheel hop and we dont cover that"!

If you are running enough power to run 10's, why are you surprised that things are breaking. Looking at it from DTE's side, if he guaranteed parts with this kind of power, he would be out of business.
At some point these cars will just produce too much power for the stock components to handle (components meaning case, etc. since the loads go somewhere not just to the gears/axles). Recently, DTE introduced a iron version of the case to overcome this limitation. An iron product, just by material properties alone, is three times stiffer. Aluminum has a lot of flexibility. With the power you are putting down, I am not really surprised at the results and would also suspect there are other portions of the driveline that may be in dire straights as well. Remember what the original GM design levels were for these components, there is only so much you can do for strength without a wholesale change in parts.
Someone on this forum recently sold their Vette that they drag raced for an f-body, because it was better suited to the power levels with an upgraded rear. Sorry to hear about your breakage. Unfortunately if you beef up the rear you may find the tranny detonates.

I realize that, but why even advertise a 2 year warranty? They know we are hard on these cars. I didnt expect total free replacement, I thought I would end up paying for labor and they would replace parts.

I am currently looking for a F-body to put my engine in. They vette is not made for high horsepower without having the high pockets!!!! Wish I would have realilzed this about 20 g's ago!!

You're certainly right...there is *FAR* more to the story as there always is and the "teller" of a story lke this will *NEVER* divulge any pertinant information that works against them...
When I get back into the office, I'll pull this file and show documented facts on what's *REALLY* going on here.... Mr. Savage, you still have time to bring the truth forward before I do, if you wish.....
