Default 2002 Horn Malfunction?

Hi Folks--

I have a 2002 coupe. Earlier tonight I was sitting in my living room, car in the garage- and the horn started blowing on the car-- and it blew (not the alarm signal, just full-on blowing) for a good 10-15 minutes!

The alarm on the car had not been set. Nothing on the key fob would make it stop- locking, unlocking, resetting the panic button. I popped the hood and started trying to pull out fuses, disconnect the battery, anything...and the horn suddenly stopped on its own.

I'm guessing this must be an electrical short or problem. I used to get a 'Charge System Fault' error occasionally but haven't had one recently.

Any ideas? Will it happen again? What should I do to diagnose/fix?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Unfortunately the issue is most likely with the thin film switch in the steering wheel. It is shorted closed.

One solution is to replace the component, but it's part of the airbag assembly, very expensive.

If you are ambitious you could attempt to disassemble and repair it yourself, be careful to not deploy the air bag in the process.

Happened to me. $$$$ Hopefully, you have an extended warranty. I had to wait for the part, so I removed the fuse at night when I parked the car. Good luck.

I had it and used to hit the horn and it would stop. Never knew when it would happen so I removed fuse until they replaced the under airbag steering wheel part under warranty.
