Is the 2000 model year affected by the weak rings/oil burning issues? I am looking at a car with 60,000 miles and wondering if the car could have problems. Anyone?
I have heard of this issue on some of the later model C5 up to some 00', you can run a search for more information. I have a 2000' Torch Red and have not had any issue, solid car. Most of the oil issue was with the MN6 model. Lots of info. in this forum.
Its mostly the MN6 tranny that had issues with burning oil. If you kepted the car in the upper RPM range, you might notice it use oil. If granny drove the same car, it would not be as much of an issue. (according to GM)
I have a 2000 MN6 with over 30k on the clock now and it has never burned a drop of oil, I do run up thru the gears and change oil about 3000 miles and no oil usage at all.
I seem to remember the issue became prevalent when they changed the hp from 345 to 350. I thought there was a piston change that corresponded to this hp increase, but not sure. I know they went to the coated pistons in March 01 and the napier rings in the beginning of 02 production. Start of production for LS6 and a few weeks into production for the LS1.

2001 mn6 w/33,300 hasn't burn a drop of oil and I check it every fill up. I think it has more to do with the way you drive.
