Default Output Shafts

What all is involved with the installation of the output shafts?
Can it be done by a DIY'er?

What is the best brand to go with.

Also should I go with just the long shaft or replace them both?

You can install them yourselve if the diff is out. The longer shaft is more prone to breakage but i'm running both as a safety measure. I strip run the car so breakage is a cionstant concern. Hope this helps in your decision.

You would be better off to ship the rear to RPM and have them do it.

Hey Bobby, looks like I'll be getting my output shafts done as well. I'm planning on getting both sides done as it I'm upgrading to a Level 4 RPM tranny plus a Vig 2800 converter. I'll be driving to Indianapolis to Rodney's shop to git R dun as they say around here!
Did u do yours already, and if so, both sides?

BTW, Bristol street fights begin 3/3, but I can't make that one anyway.
Hopefully I'll be at the April one.

No I haven't getten mine done yet. I will soon though.

Still have to finish up the engine work first, changed cam, swapping pulley and using restrictor plate and puttin in 60# injectors and a BAP.

Then I am going to get the output shafts, differential strut and some ET Streets.

Sounds like a serious power increase is about to occur! Let me know how it goes and have fun! I have the MSD BAP which has worked well for me.

It should pick up a little power, nothing crazy as I will be keeping the boost around 9psi, but will come in a little quicker.

The MSD is the one I picked up too.

Just for my own knowledge, what will swapping the pulley do if it doesn't increase the boost? Mine is a 4.10 pulley and I thought if one goes to a smaller pulley, you will thus turn the blower impeller more times per rotation of the belt and therefore create more boost.

It will create more boost. I am pulleying down and using a restrictor plate to keep it around the boost level that I was running with the 4.1 pulley.

I just installed both shafts in about 2 hours (diff was already out of the car). Not very hard, in my opinion. In addition to the tools listed in the long shaft write up, you will need a press and a pickle fork (tie rod splitter or equivalent).

Follow the write up for the long shaft. Once you have the case split, take the portion with the short shaft and set it in the press. Place the pickle fork around the cross pin so it straddles the pin, and then use the press to compress the bellville washer and clutch pack.

Don't over do it on the pressure. You need just enough to slide the cross pin out. Once the pin is out, remove the two side gears and washers, and release the pressure. You now can remove the short shaft. If you remove the clutch packs, make sure you keep them in the same order.

Reverse the above to reinstall. During the reinstall, make sure the holes in the cross pin align with the holes in the case (use the case bolts to align the two as shown in the picture). Once aligned, release the pressure and reassemble the case.

Also, when torquing the case bolts, I set the case in the press and applied light pressure so as to keep the case from rotating while torquing the bolts.
