all you have to do is look on the search to see that RP, Amsoil, and Mobil 1 are top rated. are you looking to RP your engine or your tranny? I use Mobil 1 on engine, RP soon in my six speed. Should do real fine.

I have done a lot of reading over on bobistheoilguy.com and RP really hasn't shown very good results. The German Castrol has actually shown the best wear numbers and its available at Autozone for the same price as other synthetics. I now run this in all my cars.

Default Royal Purple

I am running it in my 99.

Oil and rear end so far.

Will be doing the transmission in the spring.

The car seems to run strong with it and has elimated some nosie
I was getting from the rear end.

Sold me.

And it has been proven by dyno test you gain 9 to 10 hp from doing the motor, trans and rear end.

Just got a 98 C5 6 speed with 44k miles. 90% oil life left but I want to change the oil and filter to get it on my schedule soon. Spec rqmts. are 5w-30 Mobil 1 so I'd use the same weight Royal Purple engine oil, but what about the 6 speed and rear end? What weight RP would they use? Oh, and what oil filter do you guys use with RP? This will be my first venture into synthetic oils.

Thanks for helping a C5 newbie, a very happy one too.

Mick

The 6 speed manual tranny uses Dexron III ATF... tha tis not a mistake, that is the spec.

The rear diff uses 75W90 synthetic gear oil + 4 oz of GM limited slip additive ( or aftermarket equiv.)

any good quality engine oil filter is fine

David, please give us a little more info here! Did GM do the work under warranty? RP meets any GM spec for the engine oil....

I doubt it was the oil. I would dig a little deeper on that one.

How many miles do you go before an oil change using Royal Purple, same as the spec for Mobil 1, 7000?
