Just curious if I need to disconnect the Battery before messing with the EBCTM? Also, are there any special tabs securring the electricl connection? I don't want to break anything and then have to replace something I broke!
If you look at Bills pics you can see the main harness is secured with a white plastic strip passing through the gray locking handle. Remove the security strip then liift the handle and the harness will come right off.
Its always a good Idea to disconnect the battery when working on these cars.
Arg. I have had this happen on both my Zs, 01 and 03. It came and went on the 01 with no common circumstance I could put my finger on, but the problem went away as quick as it came. Now on my 03 it is there to stay it seems. It (the DIC messages about ABS, ASM, ans TCS) has come and one with a couple restarts before on this vette too. But now even after i checked the fuses, cleaned the grounds and connectors, the code wont go away. I just find it odd that it comes and goes sometimes and now all of a sudden its not going away! This time around it came on after i rolled in a curb parking stop.. the guys at the muffler shop parked it on a downhill slope an inch from the curb... anyway when I nudged the curb the DIC went nuts. My question is how the heck can a curb nudge on the front frame rail have anything to do with the pratical reasons for the code??
The module is in front mounted to that area. The wiring harnesses are secured to the cross-member. You just might have a bad connection or a bad wire. Time to shake rattle and bump stuff to find the culprit.

Thanks for the info, can you gie me an idea of what and where to look for the connections to the tire sensors maybe? I read somthing about that earlier.
Wow your fast. I read somewhere that if all the connections are good then that was te next place to look before replacing the EBTCM. Maybe just wishful thinking. I've wiggled everything I know to wiggle -- no effect.
Thought I'd update the Forum with the conclusion of my story. I drove the car for a couple of weeks before taking it to the dealer. Sure enough the EBCM was bad. When I dropped the car off I told the Service Manager, who I have a good relationship with, that if the EBCM was bad we were going to have to talk to GM because I didn't think a car with only 28K miles should have this problem. The next day I get a call and the Service Manager advised the EBCM needed to be replaced, $1,800! He had already called GM and the offer was they would replace the EBCM if I paid for the labor. I accepted this offer and only had to pay $688, and I got a free oil change to boot. Knock on wood this is the last trip to the shop for some time.
Code 1415 or 1416 - Do a search for recent posts of code 1492. It's the same thing. There are pics that show you what to do with Carb cleaner and wd40.
