Default Porting Fast Intake

My 427 has a 90mm ported throttle body but the lsx fast intake is not ported. I have read a little about Tony Mamo's fantastic porting jobs of the tb and lsx intake. Just wondering if it would be worth the trouble and expense to persue a porting job on my fast intake. Any superduper experts out there have thoughts?

Ok...the Tony Mamo and Vengeance racing ported FAST 90/90 have shown to produce some significant gains. The unported Fast 90/90 by itself doesn't really seem to gain much until it is ported CORRECTLY.

Hammer
I have a correctly ported throttle body, so that is no problem.
I have heard great things about the Tony Mamo work. Will look into that as I feel his heads as some of the best in the industry.

You will see gains in the lower RPMs with the ported unit, whereas the unported unit from what I have seen struggles to maintain the power that the LS6 intake and ported TB make.

I'm far from an expert, but I'm due to receive my LS2 TB back from Tony Mamo in the next couple of days. I installed my H/C, and then added the FAST/LS2 90, and had some pretty annoying drivability problems. I didn't trust myself to accurately port this TB, and have ample anecdotal testimony of Mr. Mamo's expertise, and great results. My FAST was purchased used, and was already ported, and when I first installed it, (with no instructions,DOH!) I popped a bunch of holes through the base plate. When I got the replacement piece, I had to tear apart the manifold (it's 3 pieces) and got a good look at the areas that will benefit from porting work. To my untrained eyes, it would appear the center section requires the bulk of work needed, about 95%, I'd say. I found pictures of this manifold unported over at LS1tech, and the bulk of material you need to remove is pretty obvious. I would say it's fairly simple to get at least 75% of the benefits of porting, by doing it yourself. There's a ridge on the ports where they go into the heads that's just begging to be removed and smoothed. I hear lots of talk about "port matching" the manifold's outlets, to the heads intake ports, and I call that pretty much . There's not much material on the manifolds to work with, as the gaskets that surround the ports are very close. A strong caution is warranted in this area, IMHO.

there's a post from vengeance racing on ls1tech showing a 16hp gain by simply porting the fast intake that was on the car.
