Default Injectors

On a 98 LS1 motor, what's the injector size. I think 24#. If so, whats the next size injector up from that and a base price you will spend to purchase new. Tk's John

Bill,

I have a H/C package with over 120k on the injectors. I think 1 or more might be bad or going bad or have a little dirt in them. When driving down the hwy my car sometimes (which is becoming alot) will start to flutter (feels like a plug is starting to file out or a plug wire is going bad) but once I put it in neutral and floor it to clear it out, it starts running ok until the next time. Ive been told it might be some kinda fuel problem with the car. I've changed the plugs and plug wires about 3 times in 1 month, so I dont think its that. Plus, I've ran all kinda additives to clean the injectors but still surges and flutters at normal driving. Tk's John

YEP!! You should jump right up to 40's Thats what I plan on doing. There are guys who do 60's but that sounds like it will be way too big.

How do your plugs look when you remove them??

Bill,

They look good. Nothing filed or cracked. How much does new 40 or 42# injectors usually cost. I've seen some 42# on the forum used low mil's on them for 250 shipped. Tk's John

Have you logged AFR? If you've been running h/c on your stock 26s, jumping to 42s might be an overkill. Going to 60s might be a little difficult to get to idle properly. SVO 30s flow at 36 at our fuel pressure.

I have a h/c setup that was pushing my stock '02 injectors frequently beyond 90% duty cycle. Under 80% dc is considered std. I swapped them out to a matched set of the SVO 30 lb./hr. (36 lb./hr. with our fuel pressure) injectors and logging showed the duty cycle back to acceptable. It's best to properly size the injectors based on fuel requirements rather than just throwing a large injector at the system. Here's a link to a web site that helps you calculate the correct injector size.

I have H/C and about 475 FWHP with the stock 26 lb injectors. 26's are good for up to 500 HP.

From an old thread:
at 100% duty cycle,
Injector size= FWHP divided by 8, then divide by 2.04
For normal use injectors are sized at 80% duty cycle
