What is this? There is a small wire with a 15 A fuse coming off it, that then terminates into a butt connector (that's all)

What is it for? Image below (left of shifter)

Looks after market. See if you can follow it back and find out where it attaches. If it goes back into a stock wiring harness, then its probably a stock wire and maybe it was disconnected from something under the dash There are plenty of connectors under the dash for uninstalled options (like tilt telescopic wheel etc..) that are not used. Some one could have removed the red wire from that connector and added a fuse to it. Are you the original owner of the car??

I am not the original owner. It is a 99 and I bought it in 2004. It is a small red wire that mates with a larger red wire at a harness. Maybe it was for a radar detector or something. There is black tape around the base of the fuse so I didn't think it was original, but you never know...

Not 100% on this, but I have a feeling that might have been the power wire to an aftermarket HU. Looks about the place where the power wire was on my buddys FRC when the shop put in a Alpine screen.

Default same problem

I have the same problem. there are a few extra wires under my dash. I am guessing it's from an aftermarket alarm system or remote start they wanted to take with them.

Have the same thing in my car and was used to power a home link system. Most guys power aftermarket Radio of the extra space in the passenger floor board.
