They are for the A.I.R System which injects air into the exhaust system to speed up CAT light off. If you dont need them, get the AIR DTC removed from your PCM via EFI Live or HP Tuners.

I'll give it a shot..

1. Yes, originally they were there to hook up to your stock AIR system tubes (look at your stock exhaust, you'll see them, small tubes attached to each header).

2. They were welded shut more than likely due to a common issue with the tubes snapping off, creating holes in the headers.

3. Yes, they are emissions-related.

4. You will have an SES light ("service engine soon" / check engine) on the dash if you don't hook up the AIR tubes like stock. The AIR system can be removed w/ the proper software program, if you know someone that can tune GM cars via HP Tuners / LS1Edit, etc. There are mail-order options to edit out the codes / turn off the dash light as well.

5. Normally the codes set / SES light on the dash would cause you to fail emissions, but you state that is not a concern.. However, if your idiot light is constantly on due to the AIR system issue w/ these headers, how will you know that a new problem has occurred? Personally I would not drive around with the check engine light on.

6. Hopefully the seller revealed these details to you, allowing you to make an educated decision before your purchase.

Good luck.
