Default Does my car have a column lock bypass?

I have a 98 A4 and a 99 MN6 and just the other day my 98 a4 shut down on me and read service column lock, I've owned the car since May of last year never had that come up? I've had pull key wait 10 seconds but that's rare.....Then tonight on my 99 6spd I was working on some cosmetics on the car and had the door open so the battery dies, so i gave it a jump, took it down the road for a quick spin, jumped on it a little got to stop sign, the car died? which is one problem I cant figure out why? the idle was very low and it just stalled out. So when I started it back up it read service column lock? . I just bought the 99 last month and have not driven it really at all, tonight was the first time i took it around the block in a little over a month?(not registered yet gotta sell my 98 first) Also I kno that when i first got the 99 the wheel would lock when key was not on.....After service column lock popped up tonight, wheel will no longer lock? an anyone please tell me what that means?
And also What's with the car just dieing out and idleing so low? could it be from sitting??? Please Help! thanx!

Sounds like your battery is very low or the battery terminals are loose/corroded/poor connection. The C5's require a good constant 12 VDC power supply to operate properly.

If the voltage dips low, various modules will shut down. The column lock is one of the ones that complain first. If the voltage was low at shut down the column lock motor will not function properly.

Your best bet is to read your DTC's:

Here is how you do it:

This is the absolute best C5 Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) web site!!!

http://www.corvettedoctor.com/Code_Main.html
http://www.corvettedoctor.com/index.html

Go to “technical data base” and then to “Corvette ECM Computer Codes”. Then select your year car. Read the instructions and then scroll down to the "READ MORE" window to view the code definitions.\

Here is another very good site:

http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_cod...d-ii-codes.php

Make sure to include the H or C suffix!!

Write down and post your DTC’s Then clear them ALL!

Sound effects are cool too! 

Once you read them, copy them down, clear all of them. Some modules will not function properly if a DTC is set.

Please post your DTC's. My guess is that you will see codes for BCM, Column Lock, DCM's and a bunch of U series codes. If you have a ton of codes, clear them and monitor after you charge the battery to see if any more set.

Charge your battery, monitor your charging voltages and make sure that your battery cables and terminals are clean and tight.

Hey thanks for the input, I disconnected the battery today then charged it, and its not coming back on so i'm happy. When it happended i went through the codes that came up and they were all history codes so i cleared them all and it did not go away. And when it happend the wheel turned freely w/o the key, when i put the battery back on it locked as it should. So I guess ill just let that be for now, and when it happend yesturday the battery was dead from the doors being open for about 2 hours so i was driving it off a jumped battery? So hopefully it will be fine, Now my concern is why it stalled out on me? I'm told it's because the cars been sitting for about 6 weeks and when it sits the bcm starts to loose some of its memory and it has to re learn its idle. When i took the car for a test ride when the guy had it on the road I know it was not stalling or getting very low rpms so I'm hoping that once it goes on the road it will be fine?

i would guess it did not have enough battery to support it at idle. possibility?
