My shifter began to squeak last event. If you are in neutral and move the shifter side to side it squeaks. Shifting otherwise fine. Someone told me to take off the center console and pull shifter out to lube the shifter attachment. Does anyone have some more info on how to do this?
Pull out the center console, remove the shifter and look down in the hole. There is a block that holds the shift shaft in place, add some lithium grease to where it slides and you should be fine.
That was a horrible description, I will look for a better write up...
Did this fix the problem? I was having this problem and tension between shift when it's warm. It would go in gear but it feels like I'm hitting something before it goes in only does this when warm. I thought it was clutch/slave cylinder got that replaced and problem still exist.
The (4) bolts holding the shifter in place come loose pretty easily. Remove those bolts and add some loc-tite.
Don't follow the instructions in the pictures above... that gouge you put in your shifter looks awful.

Just a little update on this I couldn't stand the noise and the tension between shift anymore so over the weekend I went over to autozone and bought me a bottle of lithium grease came home pulled the shifter off and sprayed the hell out off the linkage and the shifter itself(hell $5 wouldn't hurt right?)...guess what problem solved for $5!!! **** I wish I've done this before I had the new clutch and slave cylinder put in would have saved me over a grand...lesson learned
