Default Spring Performance Mods

I have a 2000 C5 Coupe. The only performance mods I have done are 1) Z06 Airbox with K&N and 2) Throttle Body coolant bypass.
Question:
What is the next single most cost effective (cost per HP) performance mod?
Thanks for your input!!

IMO # 1 would be a cold air intake (I have a Vararam with K&N filter).
#2 Long tube headers.

Some will say NOS but I’m kind of afraid of long term reliability and I don’t race at all.

Cost per horse power...would be Supercharger in my opinion. You didnt say the most HP for least amount of dollars. Long tubes would be a great addition of course. It depends what you want to spend. Long tubes and intake are standard starting points for modding.

Thanks, I was thinking maybe long tubes would be the way to go. I live in NY and would need to leave on my cats or buy new ones. I would imagine the cats cut down the HP/Torque gain.
What is a good long tube to use on the C5? I have been following the post on the Texas Speed ones, but there seem to be a number of good brands out there.
I am also wondering if you really need to buy aan X pipe.
Any thoughts?

Tiger, I installed an x pipe when I installed my Corsa Pace car cat back. I did it to help keep the poping to a minimum when you shift down (still pops occacionally - but not bad since I have an A4 - M6 pop much more). If you install headers your exhaust will be much louder and I would think it would pop even more without a x pipe. Many members install the z06 ti exhaust since it will not be too loud, cheaper and lighter than aftermarkets.

Some like the poping but I dont care for it at all (too many ricers poping all over the place - I dont want them to mistake me for a ricer want a be).

From what I have read here on the forum - removing cats will net you about 10 hp. Some complain about the exhaust odor without cats. I would opt for HI flow cats if I was going the whole exhaust.

Many good Long tube headers - do some searches and see what looks good to you and your pocket book.

Alot of the longtubes you buy needs the same x-pipe and they offer cats or no cats. Cost you a little more for cats. My friend is have a issue right now with his headers and a different x-pipe is not matching up. I would buy the same brand X as the headers. Good Luck

Thanks guys. I will start my research on the forum. I installed a z06 exhaust last summer, and although it is nice and light, I expected a little more throatiness and/or rumble, but it's pretty quiet.

Now every thing starts to get more expensive, depending on the mod, take your time to decide what kind of power you want and then start to do some research on the CF. There are zillions of mod posts with results and cost. Good luck.

Here is the way my Ti cat back sounds after long tube headers a cam 224/224 LSA114 were installed. Already had hi-flo cats and an X pipe.

dndrsn,
The "Flip Tie" method...ingenious!! I may try it. How often do you have to clean the filter? Did you notice a difference?

SleeperC5,
Your car sounds awesome! Does it pass state emission testing? Also, is there any drone at highway cruising speed? I would like to consider a setup like yours. How much did it cost you? Did you do the work yourself? (Sorry for all the questions, I get excited about this stuff)
Thanks

Best Bang for Your Buck? New gears!!!! Hands down the single biggest acceleration improvement you'll make.

Auto - Go with 3:42

Stick - 4:11s and beef up your headrest!

I never thought to change out geae ratio. I have an M6, so i guess 4:1`1 would be the way to go. Where do you buy them and how much do they cost? Will my gas mileage take a hit?
Thanks,
Bob

I would seriously check into this deal! You might want to consider 3:90s if you drive on the highway alot.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...ght=gear+ratio

you will notice a slight decrease in your mileage, all factors considered. Do a search in here there have been several threads associated wth changing gear ratios and the resultant increase in performance and drivablility changes.
