Default I know, another intake question

I know there have been a lot of questions on air intakes, and I have read a lot of threads, but I need some advise on this one. I have an 00 vert and I know anything is better than the stock intake. It is not a daily driver. I would like an intake that will be be noticable around town (below 50 mph) and highway(60+ mph). I have read about the Vararam, Blackwing, K&N, twin filter tube, etc. I want a true bolt on and something that will not throw codes. I was thinking of a Vararam with or without a new air bridge, or one of the other types. What do you guys think. All opinions are welcome. Any direction to past threasd are welcome.

I just installed a Vararam, and I'm quite pleased with the result. I've got lots of different parts from stock, so there was some cutting of plastic, but on a stock engine, should be easy.

Would it be wise to add the hood seal also?

I Have a blackwing and I have enjoyed it. It works great, and easy to install. It also looks nice under the hood. But I don't think you could go to wrong with any of the intakes out there, there all good. I bought the blackwing for the easy install. I did add a power tube with it.

If you want an easy bolt-on intake you aren't going to get cold-air (which is one of the biggest advantages of a new air intake). Since I didn't research these I can't give you much advice.

If you want to go with a slightly more challenging install (but nothing that still can't easily be done) I would recommend the Callaway Honker. It's the most expensive of the aftermarkets but I think provides the best performance increase and overall best fit/finish/quality.

Others swear by the VaraRam...

Can you get a pre-cut shroud for the Callaway Honker? Are the Honker and the Vararam comparable?

You may be able to find pre-cut shrouds, but I haven't seen them. I would just buy another full shroud to keep handy (in case you decide to remove the intake) and cut your existing shroud.

VaraRam vs. Honker are different in fit, finish, quality, functionality, install, and price. It is a long standing battle on which is better with people ready and waiting to fire back and fourth - do a search and you will find months worth of reading...

FWIW - I went from the VaraRam to the Honker...
