Default code U1064

U1064 Loss of Communications with BCM

I have had this code for 1.5 years.

I have spent a lot of time resetting it daily.
pulled battery power from it a lot.
I cant get rid of it.

Any idea where to start?
I have been going through the search for over an hour now. seems like this BCM is black magic and only the dealer can fix?

where is this BCM?

The Body Control Module is located on the passenger side toeboard, next to the fuse panel. This code is nothing to worry about as long as you are not experiencing any failures and you can ignore it. BTW, this is as per the GM factory shop manual, not just me.
I have been getting a U1016, U1064 and a U1096 off and on for over seven years in my RFA system. They always have the "H" suffix indicating a History code and not a Current code. I gave up being concerned about them long ago.

Robert

I think the vast majority of these codes are set because the individual modules can not report back a SOH (State Of Health) signal to the BCM at the appropriate time because they are busy or it just gets scrambled or lost somewhere in the system...

Uxxxx codes will intermittently come and go in a C5.

If the U1064 ceased to be intermittent and became a hard failure, for example, then the car would not start as the PCM needs a "password" from the BCM controlled security system before the car can be driven.

There is a lot of data flying around the network between all the computers, and the connection speed is actually pretty slow. This is why for the C6 (and other new GM platforms) GM has moved to a faster network protocol called CAN (Controller Area Network) to eliminate this problem.

Relax and go enjoy the car.

It would be nice if CAN was backwards compatible....

I believe this is what happend in my case: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1621667

car refused to start on me for a couple of days so I had it towed to Cartek to diagnose. When the car arrived there it started up fine and apearently has ever since. In an attempt to try and eliminate the problem they tied all the grounds together to one central location.

ok, I suppose I will ignore it.

I have other code issues dealing with the vararam, and the air injection system and o2 sensors. P0140 p0410, everytime I attempt to fix this I go through all the codes and the U1064 is always there.

Not really, since I know what those are, and why they are there.

From the Service Manual:

DIC Onboard Diagnostics Show DTCs U1016, U1064 and U1096 in History #PI00043 - (Jun 19, 2002)
DIC Onboard Diagnostics Show DTCs U1016, U1064 and U1096 in History
.

When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.

Condition/Concern:
DTCs U1016, U1064 and U1096 may be present when scrolling through the onboard diagnostics via the instrument cluster Driver Information Center (DIC).

Recommendation/Instructions:
This is a normal software function as long as the DTCs have a history status upon ignition cycling. No repair attempts should be made.
