I have a '99 FRC, that I installed a vortech supercharger on. I bought the supercharger used on ebay, so I did not get the superchips unit they supply. I do have a diablo predator for this car. Does anyone know if I can put an initial tune on this thing to it drive to the dyno so I can have them do a complete tune? The problem is that I have replaced the stock injectors with 42lb. injectors per the instructions. I haven't tried but I am sure the car won't run, unless the computer recognizes the change. I've called diablo and vortech....no help. I guess I could switch out the injectors to get the car there, but there must be a better way. Any suggestions, anyone?
I would recommend putting your stock injectors in and using those until you get the car to the dyno. Just stay out of boost!
What he said.
It is common practice to drive to the dyno with stock injectors and do a quick 10 minute change just before dynoing. Just MAKE SURE YOU STAY OUT OF BOOST!!!
Tow it If it coast $500 for the tow it still will be a lot less then damaging anything on that motor. The stock PCM can only adapt up to a 20% afr error and you want to be running about 11.8-12.6 depending on the motor and boost. so with the injectors and the car not reconizing it the car will run way lean. If you put the stock injectors in it will be hard to stay out of boost you have a charger not a turbo. My opinion Tow it.
Yeah, like the other guys said, it will take you 30 minutes tops to replace your injectors and go back to stock. Without a reprogram EVERYTHING about your tune will be off since your computer will be opening and closing the new larger injectors as if they were smaller injectors, resulting in over-fueling and a car that likely won't run at all. But it will run just fine with stock injectors and your blower and no tune *at part throttle*.
It's not dangerous at all to drive it this way. As others have said, just go light on the throttle and you'll be fine. You'd have to try real hard to damage something -- some of the basic things that change in a FI tune include rescaling or changing some tables that would otherwise make the PCM throw a code if it saw more airflow than expected (e.g., you are starting to go into boost), putting you into reduced power mode.
My instructions specifically stated DO NOT DO ANYTHING until you have installed the program as per instructions and to the "T".
Yep, that's good blanket statement advice -- but really, he'll be fine as long as he doesn't go into boost running off the old injectors. The MAF actually compensates more than people think for even light boost (1-2psi) but as I mentioned, before he can do any damage the PCM will see too much airflow and essentially shut the motor down by going into limp mode.
He could call A&A or ECS to confirm this if he wanted...

I ran into the same thing with my Vortech. I sent mine off to Charlie and had him do a base tune which was pretty close to perfect. All I had to do was fine tune it. It's worth the hundred bucks to send it to him then drive to the dyno. Just my .02.
I haven't been here to answer replies to my post since I originally posted it(computer problems). However, I did receive an e-mailed tune from diablosport and the car is running. Thanks to everyone here that had suggestions to the problem...I will be filling out my profile now that I am back on line.
