If you are mounting the calipers to the bracket then you don't need any loctite. Now if you are mounting the bracket back to the Hub / Suspension (The big bolts with washers) then yes you should use the red stuff.

I'm replacing the rotors. The two bolts that hold the Calipers in place are the big bolts correct?

Sounds like Red is my color.

Thanks

Use the Blue Loctite for the caliper mounting bracket bolts (the big 21mm bolts). The red stuff requires heat to loosen the compound.

If you use the blue Loctite and torque the big bolts to spec, you will be fine.

As a general rule-of-thumb, if you will most likely NEVER remove the bolts again, use red (271 or 268, I believe) Loctite. Otherwise, if the bolts are 6 mm or larger, use the blue (Loctite 242). Non-permanent small size screws (<6mm) can have Loctite 222 (purple/pink) applied to them.

I have two for Red and 2 for Blue.
I am certain I will be removing these again and don't really want to have to heat things up to remove. On the other hand I don't want them to vibrate loose. Can I get a couple more personal experiance votes.
TX for all the feed back.

I used Red and the new bolts (the service manual states to change them) have a red compound as well, but I don't know how or if it differs from red Loctite.

This is what I do too.

Honestly it doesn't really matter, it's more a matter of opinion. I don't think they're going to come loose with blue, some people just like the little extra security of the red. As long as you use some sort of loctite you will be fine. If you don't, you risk having the caliper bolts back out which isn't a good thing (it has happened a few times on this forum alone).

Needing to heat red to remove it is a myth. I typically just use whatever's handier. I've used red many times on large/small bolts and I can remove them by hand (it's much harder of course!). Be aware that red is more of a pain to wirebrush off of threads after you've removed the bolt too.

You could pose this question to LOCKTITE...I think they're developed new products that are somewhere between Red and Blue. Go to this link and scroll down to threadlockers, that might have some information.

I sent them a msg. I'll see what they come back with.

Thanks all for the feed back.
