Default Weird electrical problem occuring

Car has been running like a top. I go to the vets office, come back out, turn key to on, let gauges cycle, lower my windows then start the car. Car started up normally and then every warning message came up on the DIC. The only gauges that worked were the voltmeter, speedo and tach. Pulled out and drove it home, car ran normally, no reduced engine power. Gauges came back on for about 30 seconds, then went dead again. Got home, raised the driver's window, but the passenger window will not go up using either switch. I have just disconnected the battery, but don't think it will do anything. Does anyone have an idea what might be the problem or where on the car I can look to start a diagnosis?

I am a rookie to the Vette world but I have heard alot about funky electrical problems that come and go. From what I heard it could be one of the chassis grounds located on the car. I also heard that if the battery cracks it will leak to the main chassis ground which is right below the battery tray. My problem here is that I have heard that what is below the battery is one of a few things, and I'm not sure what to believe. I've heard that it is the main chassis ground, the BCM, ECM, or an electrical junction. Whatever is below that battery, if it gets battery acid on it, I'm sure it is not a good thing. If the car does have several chassis grounds as I'm inclined to believe, dirt and moisture from bad weather driving could possibly contribute to intermittent maladies. Since the cars body is fiberglass and plastic it would make sense that it has unique grounding points on it compared to a normal car.

Your problem sounds like it could be Body Control Module (BCM) related.

The BCM is a big silver box next to the fuse box in the passengers foot well behind the toe board and it is VERY sensitive to moisture/corrosion.

C5's are known to experience a clogged HVAC air box drain which can cause the AC Condensation to flood back into the passengers foot well and cause havoc with the gage cluster!! Been there!

My 98 had it BAD! check the BCM, the carpet and the jute carpet underlayment for moisture. If there wet, let me know!

There are also leaks that can occur from other passenger side areas. Water in the passengers foot well is NOT C5 friendly!

As for the door issue, grab a hold of the rubber accordion tube that connects the door to the door frame, feel for the TWO wiring harnesses inside the tube. grab them and shake them while you press the up or down buttons for the window.

Thanks BC. I was going to look at the BCM and now I know about the window harness check. I'll post later today about both.

Well I did the harness trick and it worked. The DRL's are still non-functional. Thanks for the suggestion.

Ahhhh yes,,,but,,,,I bet people in hell need AC! If you run the AC, you will get condenstaion in the air box and on the AC equipment under the dash. If it condensates, it will FIND IT WAY to he BCM (MURPHYS LAW SAYS SO!!)

If you had the AC on, it's a good bet that it could have gotten damp.

It looks like you conveniently forgot to tell everyone the story about the jug of moonshine that you bought from these guys:

Apparently, the not-tight-enough jug spilled all over the passenger side footwell, back a few weeks ago.................
