Subject: DIC Onboard Diagnostics Show DTCs U1016, U1064 and U1096 in History #PI00043 - (06/19/2002)

Models: .

When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.
Condition/Concern:

DTCs U1016, U1064 and U1096 may be present when scrolling through the onboard diagnostics via the instrument cluster Driver Information Center (DIC).
Recommendation/Instructions:

This is a normal software function as long as the DTCs have a history status upon ignition cycling. No repair attempts should be made.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.

Bob

There blower codes! Get that thing off that engine!! You need to remove your blower and send it to me!

On a more serious note, they indicate that a module (in your case the RFA module lost communications with some other module/s. They all operate on a serial buss and they all send out a state of health message. If the other modules don't see the SOH message they report the U series DTC.

Most of the time, if you have a weak or under charged 12 VDC battery, when you start the car the B+ (12 VDC battery voltage) goes very low (below 9 VDC ) for a fraction of a second and some of the modules drop off line during the under voltage period.

The tell tail signs of that happening are that your FOB will loose "SYNC" and you will need to press and hold the lock and un-lock buttons a lot! If you have a bunch of U series history codes, the above scenario about sums up what usually happens. Can you tell that I have been there in a past C5 life??

IMO, these are codes triggered by buggy coding. My voltage never drops that low and the car will set them on every start.

Best to ignore them unless you have a specific problem, especially since they don't turn on the check engine light...
