Be careful, the drain valve only opens 90 degrees before pulling out. If you turn it too much, you will shear off the pin(s). A new one costs $5 at NAPA (don't ask how I know).

On mine, a 1/4 inch extension on a ratchet was the perfect tool to fit into the 1/4 inch square hole on the plug.

I believe you turn 90 degrees, be careful. I have heard many who have broken this valve

The hole in the center is 1/4" square, and I just use a nut-driver handle. Works perfectly for turning.

Thanks
Thank you for the info. I want to do this service for mine, and this helps make sure I get it right. I've never used distilled water before, but will now.

You need the nose higher for filling. This will get the air out of the system.
Your heater should be on high temp and high speed. This will open the heater core. Do not haave the AC system running as this will cuase the value to close to the heater core.
There is no valve that keeps coolant from circulating to the heater core so you don't need the heater running to fill it.

It's fixable and the valve is cheap, right around $5
