Default Paging electrical guru's....PLEASE HELP

I am installing new Corbeau seats tomorrow so I unhooked and took my factory sport seats out. Now my telescoping steering wheels doesnt work. I looked for a fuse just to start with but I didnt find one. Is this because I have the power seats unhooked. Im sure everything else is working fine. Thanks in advance

Chris

Yes, if your car has the memory function, the telescoping column operates through the memory module... which is plugged into the seat harness.

You could try removing the harness from the seat (not a lot of fun) and plugging it into the car and see if this allows you to operate the column.

Good luck... GUSTO

I think it would be pretty difficult do make it work without that memory module.

It might be kinda like the CAGS system where it needs to see some resistance in the circuit instead of just an open. You may be able to jump two of the pins in the connector with a resistor or resistor-diode connection and be able to retain the power telescoping function. I have no idea which pins would allow you to do this, especially since I never had a telescoping wheel in the first place. I also do not recommend you going and jumping a bunch of pins in that harness because it could be harmful to your electrical system. I would talk to an experienced C5 Technician that you trust to help you as much as possible.

On the other hand. You could just swap your column out for one that does not have the power telescoping function. I am sure there are a couple of members on here who would love to have a telescoping wheel in their C5. You could probably arrange a trade or sell your wheel in the C5 Parts section.

Good Luck

^ What if I bought a power seat motor, plugged it in, and then just disconnected it and left it at the distance that is comfortable ? Would this work ?

As long as you have the Easy Entry feature turned off I think that would probably work. However, I don't know what would happen if you disconnected the battery and reset the electrical system. It will probably reset the telescoping wheel and go back to the forward most position.

Either way it's worth a shot.

Contact Gene at Gene's Kar Shop, a supporting vendor (in the far left column, at the bottom). He dismantles lots of Corvettes and may have a seat that is otherwise unusable that he can sell you the harness from.

Good luck... GUSTO

Well I got it figured out with the help of a friend. We found out there is a way to jump the wires and make it moveable without the seat module. I used our shop computer software to get all the wiring diagrams so we could know what we were working with. The he made a circuit for me and I wired it up and it works like a charm No seat module and I still have telescoping steering capibilities. Thanks to all who helped me out in this thread and Bill Curlee also. I really appreciate it.
