This has now happened 3 times. Twice in the last few weeks. The security light is on so when you turn the key it does nothing, won't even crank. Keep trying and after about 10 minutes it will start and no more security light.
The last time it did this same thing, then it turns over and starts momentarily then dies as if the fuel pump comes on to pressurize the system but doens't stay on. This went on for a few minutes then it starts and no evidence, no codes.
Check the VATS resisitor on your key. It may be dirty and not making proper contact in the ignition cylinder. If it's loose in the key try crazy glue, worked for me.
When the VATS security is triggered the car will start run for a few seconds then cut the fuel pump, sounds exactly like what's happenign to you.
Mine will also light up but it doesn't seem to do anything. It will run and drive fine. I just stop and turn the car off and restart it and the light is off.
I had a similar issue. It happened once, then did not happen for about a month. It started happening more frequently, then happened almost every time I went to start it.
There is a 5 minute timeout after the computer reads an incorrect key. In my case, I had the ignition cylinder replaced and it fixed the issue. Cleaning the key did not help.
