Wiper Position/Motor Problem
Last week my car sat outside all night during a very heavy rain storm (it has always been garaged so this is the first time). After the storm my wipers now function on their own. They will pop up and do a couple of intermittent wipes and sometimes go down or stay in the up position. They will be in the up position when I shut the car off and if I leave it sit for awhile and turn the key on, they will go down, but eventually pop back up. I turned the key off when they were in the down position and took the negative batte3ry off to maybe reset the BCM but that didn't fix the problem. I think it has something to do with moisture and the encoder that tells the motor the position of the wipers. Anybody else had the same problem?

The most probable cause for the wiper malfunction is the wiper control module is / was submerged under water. The module sits in a well. The well is located on the drivers side of the windshield cowl. There are THREE utter type drains that keep the well dry but they often get clogged with gook and require cleaning.
There is a space between the fender and the power brake booster that you can reach your hand into and you will be able to feel the udders. There normally soft and pliable but if there clogged they will be hard and full of nasty trash.
You can try to milk out the trash or you can pop them out. They pop out and install easily. Once there out, I strongly recommend flushing out the well with a water hose prior to reinserting the utters
If your lucky the module will dry out on its own and work properly. If you not, it will require removal and maybe even replacement.
Try the cleaning and self drying method first.

Thanks for the info Bill. It seems that this problem is somewaht common. I checked the bladders last night and they were all clean of debris. Also the water bucket was completely dry. I went ahead and took out the entire wiper assembly and blasted it with a hair dryer for about an hour. I re-installed the assembly and everything worked fine. Thanks for the help!

Excellent post BTW, I used it installing my new motor. After adjusting the top cam, I realised that it was the problem all the time and NOT the motor! Go figure...

So I took out the moter/control module today and inspected it (new one on order). I cleaned it, etc and reinstalled. It seems that this entire time the computer is telling it to opp in reverse???
Does anyone know how to reset this, etc? Maybe it will save me the expense...

I had this exact problem about 3 months ago. It is the wiper motor, not the module. I got my module fixed and they continued to work on there own. So, just get the motor fixed and you should be alright
