Tire Balancing Question
What is the collective wisdom on this question.
For example is a wheel needs twenty grams to be balanced, should the weiths be split so ten grams are on the outside lip and ten grams on the inside lip?
Kenny
For your scenario, it may take 15 grams on the outside and 5 grams on the inside to properly balance your tire/wheel assembly. It used to be (with the old "bubble" balacers) you would try to split the weight as you describe. This was good enough for most older cars. The spin balancers offered better balancing and are the only way to go for newer cars.

You want to go to a shop that has a Hunter GSP 9700
When I switched wheels I had them balanced with the Hunter GSP 9700
Balancing came out very well.
The computer screen will show the operator where to put the weights.
Two weights will be installed per wheel.
One weight goes on the inside of the wheel right behind the spokes. It will be a stick on weight.
The other weight goes on the BACK lip of the wheel. Tell them you want that weight to be the old fashioned kind that they tap on with a mallet.
Had this done at a local Goodyear dealer for a cost of $37 total !!!!
Am very pleased :D
The link listed below will give you shops in your area. http://www.hunter.com/pub/product/product.htm
After you get on the link, click on the GSP 9700 site and then click on the locate site, put in your city, state and zip code and it will give you shops in your area.
Good Luck,
George

John, thank you. It is always nice to continue to gain knowledge.
George, would you believe my favorite Chevy dealer has that machine. Their mechanic Dan has so far always done an excellent job on my Vert.
