Default turn signals intermittent 2000 C5

my turn signals work fine and then the next time I use them they won't flash in either direction this is intermittent but happening every time I drive the car. Not sure if I am looking at a ground issue or bad flasher or whatever? Any one else had this problem or suggestions?
Thanks

your hazzard switch may be going bad. The next time it happens try pressing it a few times to see if your turn signals start working again. This is a common problem.

It is a common problem that unfortunately requires removal of the dash to replace the flasher.
One of our club members did it himself using a step by step ( complete with photos) DIY he found here on the forum.
It was about a 4 hour job...

I have this problem for a few days and then it goes away for 6 - 12 months. Unless it starts happening more frequently, then it is probably not worth the time or money to replace it.

There's a simpler way to do this than removng the dash. You can remove the entire arm rest (unplugging everything, as required), remove the plastic trim that goes around the HVAC/radio/ignition, remove the radio, press in the clip on the bottom of the flasher, whack the flasher back into the dash with a big screw driver and rubber mallet, pull it out through the opening created by removing the radio. Then just disconnect the wiring from the back of the flasher, replace with then new one, reinstall everything in the oposite way that it came apart and you're done. No more than 1 hour for the entire job.

Just did this last week. Took about 1-1/2 hours, however, I installed an ipod2car at the same time.

with the diagnosis.

What you might want to do is try using some electrical cleaner on it first. Give it a good squirt and cycle the switch a good few times.

A lot of these problems get posted at this time of the year and it may be because the switch gums up over the winter. I've seen this work well on the light switch on the T/S stalk.
