Our second Vette was for my wife- 1992 6sp conv. She drove it exclusively for 3 years. Our third Vette is a 2000 6sp conv. I drive it most of the time. She loves the stick. My 1st Vette is not driven by my wife because she can't reach the clutch...1967 4sp conv. I even offered to provide a pillow, but am unwilling to modify the seat. The clutch for a BB is also very stiff for her. She's very happy being able to drive the 6 speeds, however.
My previous 2 Corvettes both had automatics so the wife could drive. She hardly ever got behind the wheel. Would complain about not being about to see the end of the nose.
If she wants to drive fast in an automatic...take a cab in nyc. To be sexist your going to be using the car 98% of the time so you should have 98% of the imput on ordering it. let her...pick out the air freshener. And let her have full responsibility for household appliances (outdoor grill and blender excluded) then you'll be even

Come on now! Be a woman and learn to drive 6speed! I have never owned an automatic car. 1. Sticks are fun. 2. I get a kick out of guys reaction when they see it's a 6 speed. 3. It's dead sexy.
I suggest you have a lot of headaches until he complies with your wishes

Hi, My husband purchased a brand new corvette, convertible. He got a 6 speed, which I cannot drive. I asked him to get an automatic so that we could share the "fun", but he refused. What is your opinion of this??
She is getting a huge kick out of the commotion she just caused in my world. :D :D
I think I'd better get her own login now. Hopefully you guys just motivated her to learn to drive a stick again. I taught her briefly last year and she actually drove it a few miles on back roads. But was to nervous to continue. She did not stall it once!
Thanks for the input :)
Sorry moderators for the post in Tech/Performance but ....It was a hijacking...
The answer lies within "Who wears the pants in the family"
If Chuckster wears the pants then everything is kosher.
If Mrs. Chuckster wears the pants then Chuckster is in a world of $h iyatt and therefore must be disciplined :D
It appears your wife caused commotion about a topic that a lot of people care about. I've never understood the resistance to learning to drive a stick shift car. It can't be a woman/man thing. I know a lot of men who won't drive a stick either, and order sports cars with automatics. Also, in Europe, most cars (driven by either sex) come with manual transmissions.
To me, everyone should at least be able to drive a stick. Enjoy it is another question, I suppose, but if you don't have really bad traffic and you've got the torque of a Corvette, you don't NEED to shift that much anyway. Heck, you could probably leave it in third gear all day long without much trouble. Wouldn't be much fun, but you could do it.
My wife cares enough about me to let me have a 6 speed Corvette. She's more concerned with my happiness than her own. What a woman!
(and no, she can't drive a stick either.)
I'd go 2 routes... I'd make sure she has her dream car too, or... if it's more about driving the C5.. I'd rent a generic stick/manual car for the weekend and show her how to drive that. Do that for 1 or 2 weekends, then let her drive the C5.
She'll probably only want to drive it a couple times to see what it's like. I let my friends GF drive mine once. I'm not sure if I'll let him drive it tho, cuz he's CRAZY! Dumped my friends bike once...
I'd explain mis-shifts, 3->2 for example if highway driving.
