My solution to this potential problem was to marry a woman who hates automatics.
As countless flame-wars on this board have shown, transmission choice is generally not a trivial thing -- it is part and parcel of what makes the car enjoyable. A guy who doesn't like shifting will be cursing if he's stuck in traffic with a manual; a guy who likes shifting will never really be happy with an auto.
From a spouse's perspective, asking for compromise to get a *car* with an automatic seems perfectly reasonable.
But from the car guy's perspective, getting a *toy* with an automatic when you want a manual is just pointless.
Corvette is always toy first, car second. Smart spouses know this and don't demand compromises that neuter the toy.
If my wife can drive a 6 speed anyone can. When she learned she had to use the emergency brake for starting on a hill. Now she has no problem. I don't think she understands about downshifting and using the gears when driving, but she knows enough to make it go. :) Learn to drive the MN6, you will enjoy it after a few days.
We have the same situation; however, we have two other vehicles that are both automatic, so there are few complaints about my 6-speed. Besides, I sold my 68 vert 4-speed to get this one.
