Hi, My husband purchased a brand new corvette, convertible. He got a 6 speed, which I cannot drive. I asked him to get an automatic so that we could share the "fun", but he refused. What is your opinion of this??
My 93 coupe was an automatic so my wife could drive it. Turns out she never wanted to drive it so the auto was a huge, huge mistake. Now I have my 6-speed C5 and life is great!
Well, that is a really hard question to answer, is it his money? Is it your money? Is it both of your money? Uuuuuh....... never mind, I think I will pass on this one! :boxing :D
Ever hear of Shirley Shahan(Drag-on Lady) or Shirley Muldowney? Learn to drive it. Have HIM teach you. Before long, you'll probably be out-driving him because you'll enjoy it so much. :D
P.S. Moderators, take one post away from Chuckster and give it to his wife. :D
The only way my wife would agree for me to trade in my 1986 Coupe (with Z-51, 4+3 and dark metallic red paint) for a C5 was if I bought a torch red with an A4. Well I did and she has driven the C5 exactly twice since we got it, both short local trips. We took a 1400 mile trip up into Canada last month, I asked her several times if she wanted to drive, she declined. What can I say  I am happy with the A4 since traffic in Seattle sucks and I'm sure I'll like it even more after I order the PLII ;) So..."Play nice" now because the C6 is coming! :D

Only you and he can really answer that question. It all depends on your relationship...:yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:
If your money went to the car... He should have taken into account your opinion about what you wanted, or maybe give you free driving lessons.. ?? :D If it was your money that went to car I would be upset too, but if he saved every dime for years for the car or is using his money only, then I would have purchased a 6 speed and just give you driving lessons. :) The 6-speeds are not hard to drive at all. I have driven other manual cars and found this one to be very easy.
Also, I don't think you should have used his account to post this message. :nono:
I think the 6 speeds are more fun then the autos. (just opened a can of worms). I have owned an auto and went to a 6-speed and will never buy anything other then a manual corvette.
Tell him to give you some lessons... I gave my girlfriend lessons on my 6speed. You can't hurt the car.
As soon as you tell your husband that you are taking stick driving lessons from a cute guy, he will make sure you get the right training and instruction, otherwise keep taking lessons with the cute guy.
My wife and I went through this same scenario recently before I ordered my M6. I had just bought her her dream car (PT Cruiser  ) which I didn't really care for (sold a loaded 2001 4Runner to pay for it :( ).
During our discussions, she realized that since she had her dream car and she shouldn't rain on my parade and force me to buy an A4 just so she could drive it a couple of times. She was very understanding and decided to let me order the M6. I have a manual 300ZX that I plan to teach her to drive stick with so she can drive my M6 when she's ready.

Learn to drive the 6 speed if he refuses to teach you then it is unfair. I am happy my gf can drive a stick she doen't even mind the aftermarket shifter :)

For me, part of the "fun" is having a sports car with a stick. Both Paula (my wife) and I agreed that having a sports car meant having a manual transmission, so Paula learned to drive a stick on our Vette. Know what? She drives it more than I do now. :D
I guess the question is this: is it "His" car, "Her" car or does it belong to both of you? Our Vette is our Vette (so I won't put a Ripper shifter in it :D). If it had been just Paula's car, it might have been auto.
As others have said, it really is easy to learn/drive a manual in a Vette. Try it and you'll understand. The car has so much torque, you don't even need much effort and you wont even need to go beyond of 3rd or 4th maximum when cruising up and down A1A on those quiet sunday drives along the beach.
I've had my wife and friends drive my Z and they never had a problem.
Don't be unfair. Learn to drive the 6 speed. After all a Vette is a Vette. What is the worst thing that could happen? You could actually enjoy yourself.
