I recently purchased an 02 coupe. The previous owner had a stock CD changer for the car with brackets, but didn't have it installed. Where are these made to mount in at, and is there already a wire harness ran for the changer? The stereo is made for a changer, just not sure how/where to hook it up. Will I need to buy and install the wiring harness, or is it already there somewhere? Any help would be great, thanks!
They're made to mount in the center (larger) cubby hole in the trunk area. A larger bracket was originally epoxied to the back side of the fiberglass, then the CD changer was mounted to that bracket with two smaller brackets. There's been dozens of previous discussions about this. Recently, someone even included the oem GM tech instructions on how to mount the changer in the trunk, run the wiring harness if the vehicle isn't equipped and where to make the connections in the front right passenger kick panel.
You might try to do a site search using something like CD changer or CD changer harness as your search keywords. There is an after market source for the harness if you find you need one. Someone will probably volunteer that source in their reply.
Have you looked in the center cubby hole to see if there's already a harness in place?
Try Gene at GMPARTSHOUSE for a new harness, or the other Gene at GENE'S KAR SHOP for a used harness. Both are supporting vendors listed in the column left on the main menu. You might luck out and someone will have one that they've removed from their car.
