I have a 98 LS1. Pretty peaked without major work about 396hp at the wheels, I want to change My intake manifold for a LS6. Will that do much for me and is there a down fall? Or will it work at all.

Dude - 396 ponies says you probably have added a cam and/or maybe done a little head work, maybe long tube headers. If that is the case, the LS6 PLUS a good tune should help put the number on the other side of 400.

or a very rare '98. Which brand dyno was used?
Yes the LS6 intake is a very good mod..go for it
From: 10.54 @ 129 346 N/A A4 Record 9.78 @ 139+ on 150 shot
I went from the ls1 to the fast 90/90 set up picked up 25rwhp and 20tq
when my car was cam only... my friend with a simalar set up went with ls6 and picked up 12/10
LS6 intake should get you an extra 12-15 RWHP. The question is..is that small gain really worth the $500 for the intake and more $$$ for a tune?? I would save my money if I were you.
On my car which has cam, L/T headers, intake and U/D pulley the LS6 netted me 4.54 RWHP. Same day, same dyno. MTI forgot to install it with my other mods so they installed and dyno'd it immediately after. Didn't pick up the 12-15 they said it would.......

YUP! Over 400HP would be what the doctor ordered along with the prescribed LS6 manifold.
I also just seen one for sale in the for sale section!
He could also just grind the fins down on the bottom of the intake. I did it that way with no problem
Don't do that unless you are very skilled! If you do you can very very easily take off too much material and put a hole in the bottom of the manifold
IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED TO GRIND THE BOTTOM OF THE LS6 MAIFOLD!
It is only about $60.00 for the two plugs for the rear and the bypass tube! It is simpler and safer to do! You will also save much time doing it this way!
Perhaps do a post to see everyone's who's done a LS6 manifold swap what they would do! You got my vote here for the bypass kit!
If you need the GM part numbers for the plugs and bypass tube let me know!
I don't know man. I heard about a guy who put one of those J.C. Whitney water vapor things and two of the fuel line magnets on '77 L48 and the horsepower went up from 148 to 152 with no other changes. And for the skeptics, that was on a for real dyno. Plus it was on that alt.auto.corvette newsgroup so you know it has to be documented and true.
