I have removed all 4 brake calipers on my 2001 C5 Coupe to paint and now need to bleed the brakes. I was planning to do a gravity bleed but have never done one before. In reading the threads on this my plan is to remove most of the fluid in the master cylinder with a turkey baster and replace it with new then place a clear tube on each bleeder valve and place that tube into a container with a couple of inches of new fluid in it. Then open all bleeders and let garvity allow the old fluid and air to flow out untill new fluid shows in each tube. I will make sure to keep the master cylinder full of new fluid. Does it look like I have covered everything? Also does anyone know about how long this will take. I want to plan on doing it when I will have enough time to keep the master cylinder full. All comments and suggestions welcome and thanks in advance for your help.
Don't think this will work with ABS, when I flushed my brake system a few months ago it took about 15-20lbs of pressure with a pressure bleeder.
BTW, Motive products sells one for about $50.00 works great!
I gravity bleed mine all the time. But if you opened the system, not sure if it will purge all the bubbles from the caliper, but the gravity bleed will work. Do one wheel at a time.
gravity bleed works all the time for me. suck some out of master then, like above do one at a time.. start with furthest away> RR> LR > RF > LF.. add as you go , DO NOT forget to pump up the pedal slowly at the end...
