Default **Newbie** any Hints & Tips?

Hey folks... So i got myself a 2004 Model Le Mans Convertable Corvette.

Few Complaints:

Window rubbers at speed make a stupid noise.
Stereo is from 60 Million Years ago
It is far too quiet unless ragged hard.

As I am a total newbie does anyone know of any hints and tips or must do's that i just have to do to the vette. Anything real cheap that i should consider?

Thing i noticed is that well Dubai is 50Degrees in a good day. Coolent runs at around 110. The car really has limited air intake, can this be boosted? I noted that the intake pipe dosnt always sit flush at the front of the car and slips down providing even less air intake, i slot it back when ever i can.

Is it best to run the car on high octane 98 or standard fuel? Any cheap mods to the Exhaust to get a more beefy sound.

Cheers Folks ! X

Dubai UAE Wow! I've been there once to support a US Submarine repair! I think you need to specifify the 50 degrees is CELCIUS!!!!! Thats like 122 degrees in the shade!!! It like the hottest place on earth.

You need to work on lowering your engine operating temps! Install a 160 deg thermostat and either have the car tuned or purchase a hand held tuner and change the fan operating temperatures to turn on earlier!

I would also install either a VARARAM or a Huricanre cold air intake. You want cold outside air, not engine compartnment air.

As for the windows, there are window adjustments points that will allow you to get a better seal on the stock rubber gaskets. If your going to have a C5 in a remote country, you NEED TO ORDER THE SERVICE MANUALS!!!

For mufflers, there are 100 different choices out there!! Im quite sure 100 people will chime in with their favorites. There are systems out there that cause an interior resonance. Yea,,,i know you like LOUD but, the resonance can be quite annoying!!! EVEN FOR SOMEONE WHO LIKES loud exhausts systems. Just be aware of that problem.

You will need to learn how to read your Diagnostics trouble Codes. Here is a web site that describes how to do it and explains the DTC's

This is the absolute best C5 Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) web site!!!

http://www.corvettedoctor.com/Code_Main.html
http://www.corvettedoctor.com/index.html

www.corvettedoctor.com

Go to “technical data base” and then to “Corvette ECM Computer Codes”. Then select your year car. Read the instructions and then scroll down to the "READ MORE" window to view the code definitions.\

Here is another very good site:

http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_cod...d-ii-codes.php

Make sure to include the H or C suffix!!

Hopes this helps!

Happy motoring in sunny Dubai

For a cheap louder exhaust you can try this mod:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...ap+exhaust+mod

The previous owner performed it on my 01, it was very quiet until it was 3/4 to WOT but not loud - but louder than stock. Since then I installed Corsa pace car and LOVE the sound.

Try some silicone lube designed for rubber gaskets on your windows. It also helps on a squeaky targa top.

The stock stereo is deficiently below par on sound. Most change out entire system if they want true performance. Bose stereo not easy to add onto from what I have read (they use different ohms and have amps attach to the front speakers (but not the rear).

Most run 91 to 93 octane. Where can you get 98? Unless you are heavy modded with tons of boost then you’re wasting your money on anything more than 93/94.

I vote for Vararam for intake (or some other cold air intake) - One of my best mods.

Your search link is your favorite friend. Most subjects have been covered many times over.

And welcome to the wonderful world of Vette.

Hey hey hey

Thanks for the responces kind sirs. Had to laugh at "even on a Dubai Budget" I am only 24 and my tax free salary makes me blush The company also sorted me out with a villa rock stars would be proud of and well the best bit is the car allowance ... pays for the car and the company catch the tab on the fuel moahahahah Anyway enough of that :P Standard fuel on the pumps is 92 here and Extreme is 98... kind of have a fue barrels of oil in the middle east that will explain it :P

The boy whos been to Dubai will tell you its mint and not a 3rd world desert as most imagine

Yeah the car does run very hot. Coolent is normaly around 110 (3/4 of the gauge)

What is this Veraam stuff your on about? Take it is some sort of forced Air induction that attaches some how onto those very small air inlets? Dont need a bigger hood do i? The car was baught from a Vette Dealer ship so i got warrenty and manuals and guff there was lots of new ones but this one called my name Do you get a proformance boost with the old air induction kit?

Is there any filters or anything i should get to help with the sand?

Best vette moment yet, hear a horrible metal on metal sound from the bay under speed... pull over almost crying that my baby was hurt.. Whip open the hood. Dont know what i am looking at then i see it.. god darn Kinder Egg Foil wrapper had been sucked into the bay and was rattling around hahaha. I fixed it myself rather than taking it to the dealship

Going to start filming the cars I pwn - ill link you up when done.

PS - Sexy motor above !

Most peoples first mods are a catback and intake. The catback is only for sound and most intakes are good for cheap hp. Other hp or power mods are gears, headers, cam. I think gears are the best bang for the buck!! Have fun, you will get to love the car although it has a few minor issues.Straight pipes can give you nice sound without spending too much $$$$. Look in the parts section.

I would think that you should look into a cold air intake system (includes new air filter, tube from air filter to MAF (4" square part at near the intake manifold)) that you could put a foam sleeve around the air filter to help keep sand from getting in. You might have to clean the foam sleeve more often, but its better than getting sand in the engine.
Like everybody says, just surf around this place using the search engine. Like type in "cold air intake" and see what happens.
Good luck,
Robi
