Default Best spark plugs?

Apparently mine are shot. Shop wanted to charge me $250 to replace the plugs with GM stock plugs. What are the best plugs? only mods are vram and Supermaxx LT's, x-pipe & hollowed cats.

I like the NGK TR-55 copper plugs. Gap them to .050 and and throw some GM hotwires (the red wires with a metal collar around the plug) in there. If you are careful, you can re-use your current wires... It took me about 3 hours (taking my time) to do my plugs. The passenger side took all of 10 minutes with a plug socket, 3in extention, and ratchet; the driver's side is a PITA due to very little room to work. It would have gone faster if I had a proper elbow for the socket, however. The type of elbow/swivel you want has 2 elbows in collars such that it cannot bind up. You'll need about 9" of extentions for the driver's side so you can turn the ratchet.

The NGK plugs will run you about $16 for the set of 8. Sure beats the price of platinum/iridium plugs (which don't spark as well). Make sure to apply anti-seize on the plugs and dielectric grease on the end of the plug that goes into your wires. Also, you'll want the engine stone cold prior to doing the plugs. I also like to have cold beer handy, but that is just how I do my wrenching.

How much are the hotwires? And can you explain why copper plugs spark better?

But the copper plugs don't last as long, right? What about Iridium...

replace the tr55's every year, most natural cars are running these plugs, TR6's for the f/i cars, stock or GMPP plug wires only

Changing copper plugs every year in a C5 can be a pain in the a__. Anyone have any good experience with a replacement platinum plug?

I just got a set of the red hotwires from Gene at GMpartshouse.com for about $60 shipped. I'm putting them on the car this weekend.

I have E3 plugs and Taylor Thundervolt 50 wires. The spark plugs are not very hard to replace. It's really not worth $250.00 to have it done.

Yeah I might just stick with the stock GM plugs and wires. I believe the stock plugs are platinum. I wouldn't want to have to get the plugs changed every year.

This place wanted $250 just to put in new plugs and than $60 to replace the fuel filter. So it would have been $310 just for new plugs and fuel filter. Vette Doctors does a full "tune-up" including new GM plugs & filters for $199.

I am going there to get the car dyno-tuned anyway since I just had LT's put in, so I will have them do the tune-up too. I just didn't know if there was a better plug choice than the OEM's than I should buy and have them put in instead.
