Dot 3 is fine if you're not driving the car hard and experiencing brake fade. If you are then go to a DOT 4, most of them are compatible with the DOT 3s. I run ATE Super Blue DOT 4 in both the brakes and clutch.
DOT 3 fluid came in all the C5s, up to and including the 2004 models.
I still use DOT 3 in my 04 Z06. DOT 4 should be compatible, but I don't want to mix them until I need to completely flush the brake system.
I'm getting ready to do some track action and will need the ATE superblue. I've gone to 4 different auto stores and no one has it. Is this an internet deal or are there any local stores that typically carry it?

ATE Superblue and ATE 200 will need to be ordered. anothe choice is Motul 600. Porsche dealer or Porsche aftermarket tuner may have them as well.

I use a fake mustash and glasses to go in and buy it from the local BMW/Audi/Porshe repair shop. A lot of the foreign shops carry it.
Thx for the advice. I'll check on it and my local NAPA guys offered to acquire this stuff for me and research it. We'll see if they can come through on it.
In a mild climate like SoCal, DOT4 is a better choice (higher boiling point and slightly higher viscosity). The Castrol previously mentioned or Wilwood EXP are good choices.
The main problem with brake fluid is that it absorbs moisture from the air. The LMA in it's name means Low Moisture Absorbition.
This fluid used to be the best you could buy, years ago, it's still pretty good as far as boiling point goes, not the best now thought, but the reason I like it is it's based on vegtable oil, which I think is very good on things inside your brake system, like O-rings.
