I am new to this so I hope I am in the right forum for my question. I have '98 vert w/ 36,000 miles. It has the 12 disc cd changer in the rear of the vehicle. The cd's got jammed so I took the changer to a local repair shop in Louisville. After 3 weeks, a plastic part and $58.00 it worked fine for about two weeks and jammed again. I took it back. After another week, another part and no charge it worked fine for about a week. Now when I push my CD/Aux button at the radio control I get nothing. No error message, no cd icon, nothing. I was told I would need a new radio. Is this true? Can I get an in dash cd/radio and forget about the 12 disc changer in the rear? Also, coincidentaly, the speaker in the passenger side door is making a vibrating/buzzing noise. Is replacing that speaker an easy DIY job? I need to get this fixed in order to turn the radio up to drowned out any other problems I don't want to hear. Bye the way, the radio itself works great. Thanks!
one guess would be that one of your carriers is causing it to jam and break parts. have you checked the carriers? check to see if there is a separate fuse for the cd too. are there any codes on the dic that may help? does the motor work to eject the cartridge and does in re scan all of the carriers when you put the cartridge back in?
bose speakers have seperate amps and are different than normal speakers so don't expect to just put in another radio (non bose). i am sure it is doable but i have never looked into it. do a search on this site for info on radio replacements. i am sure you will find something.
You might want to try the Audio Forum. Lots of good advice available there. Click on Forums on the upper left of this page. You'll get a pulldown menu. Go to General Corvette and in that menu click on Audio/Electronics.
I would check the connection at the changer and up front under the glove box. If you're not seeing the cd icon then the head unit is not seeing the changer. At worst pick up another changer from eBay. I got mine for $45.
As for the vibration/buzzing from the passenger side door... it could be the insulation in the door as come loose and that's causing the noise. I believe there is a service bulletin about that.
Go where your were last. my guess is that the plug on the CD Changer isn't connected correctly. Check there first. As for the speaker, the BOSE emblem on the cover sometimes gets loose and buzzes. I would pull the door skin off and have a look. There are a couple of things that can cause speaker vibration. Could be an easy fix.
There are a TON of BOSE stuff for sale in the C% parts for sale section. If you don't see what you want, post a WTB (want to buy) what ever it is and you should be all set.
