Default Help -- first to second shift

Anyone notice if when the transmission is cold it is hard to shift from 1 to 2 straight back? Seems like it wont go into gear, drops into third with some pulling and then it will go back into second. After I drive the car for a while it doesn't seem to do it?

I’m the furthest thing from a tranny expert but maybe a fluid change is in order. I do not experience this phenomenon in mine. How cold are we talking?

I assume it's not CAGS interfering, right?

That annoying 1-4 shift. Gate blocks 2nd gear under light throttle.

Recommended changing the tranny fluid. If you have a later model C5, consider up-grading to synthetic ATF. It will make a big difference.

I would first change the transmission fluid. If there is only a marginal improvement or no improvement then follow the proceedure in the link below.

the only time consuming thing here is removing the console. It's not hard to do just time consuming!

Your first thought should not be CAGS if/when the OP mentions "When Cold" because CAGS doesn't come on unless the coolant temp is like 170+...

I also have this problem, sometimes 2nd gear is pretty tough to get into in the morning... I mean, i'll poke out onto the road in 1st... then pull back into 2nd, and it'll kinda pause for a second, then slowly slip in... but after the first couple shifts it goes away... and it's long gone by the time the car is warmed up...
